URGENT: DRIVER’S LICENSES BILL IN CALIFORNIA NEEDS YOU

Hi DREAM Supporter,We have less than 6-hours to save AB60, a bill that would grant drivers licenses to undocumented immigrants in the State of California. This bill was slated to pass on Friday, however several organizations including MALDEF, SEIU and ACLU have come out against it, urging Rep. Alejo to postpone the bill for 2-more years!We are shocked.This bill would have prevented any undocumented person from being deported for simply driving without a license. Even worse, these organizations are using scare tactics to kill the bill. They are saying this will promote profiling, when in reality the license would prevent immigrants from being detained when they are profiled.

In response, right now, we have undocumented parents and families staging a sit-in at the offices of MALDEF. They are refusing to leave until MALDEF urges Alejo to pass AB60.

“Hi, I am calling to ask that your organization immediately change it’s position on AB60! It is wrong for you to oppose this when it will HELP undocumented immigrants. Profiling happens anyways, why shouldn’t immigrants be safe from deportation? Call Alejo and tell him to push for the bill now!”

Later today, Day laborers and undocumented youth are going to take to SEIU’s offices demanding the same. We, the community should decide what is good for us. The only way we can still save AB60 is if these organizations contact Alejo and tell him they changed their mind and want the bill.
